Posterization is the process of separating a image in to discrete areas of brightness and then changing those areas to a solid shade. It can be done in seconds now with image editing software. But back in the "old" days, it required a large number of steps in the darkroom. Separate high-contrast negatives and positives must be made for each step of brightness (five, in this image). These must then be combined in pairs and aligned as closely as possible over the photographic paper. An exposure for each step is made individually. This image took me approximately seven hours to produce. I decided it was much too time consuming to explore any further. But I do enjoy this picture.
